Cotillion Group has a novel approach to building software systems: instead of depending on "best practices" of software engineering (exemplified by reliance on design patterns), we instead apply the most promising results in programming language research. Some such applied research include rule-based programming using predicate logic and set theory, expert assistance systems using cognitive modelling and learning systems, higher-order functional programming using combinators, and strong, flexible types creating consistent and safe systems.
